Gutter clearing across 175 sites

Metro Vac is an innovative service offered by Metro Rod. Using wet and dry vacuum technology, our engineers work from the ground, using precision cameras to clear debris from guttering. This minimises the risks usually associated from working at height and offers a faster, more flexible and cost effective alternative to traditional gutter clearing methods.

What was the problem?

Metro Rod were contracted to carry out gutter cleaning works across 175 Public Houses managed by a Brewery group in Devon and Cornwall. The Brewery used traditional gutter clearing methods which had previously proved a time consuming exercise, working around trading schedules, avoiding busy trading periods, and working off ladders or portable scaffold.

 

What did we do to help?

We formulated a planned schedule of activities from the addresses provided, which was agreed in principle. Through clear and regular communication with the Property Officer, and making prior arrangements with the Landlords/Managers, all parties knew what was happening and when, how and by whom. Due to our organisation and flexibility, there were hardly any occasions when we had to alter the pre-arranged schedules. Managers of the pubs were helpful, and appreciated our efforts to contact and inform them up front, accommodate their requests, and work around the running of their businesses avoiding peak times.

 

175 pubs had gutters cleaned in 6-7 weeks.

 

Particular Highlights

There was no working at height, scaffold or mobile work platform, meaning that an innovative, less expensive solution was provided, and the time to complete the task was shortened - quicker than the contractors the brewery had previously used.

The Brewery were reported to be very pleased with the results. Impact on businesses was minimal as we could avoid their busy trading times, even through the run up to Christmas.

What had been previously an onerous task had been completed more quickly time-wise, and less costly to the Client and therefore Metro Rod were re-engaged for the 2015 scheduled maintenance.
