About Us

Metro Rod Gloucester’s business journey started in 2006 from a garage by founders Colin Witcomb and Gary Cleeves. With only two engineers and using purely word of mouth to start their business, Colin and Gary worked 24 hours a day 365 day a year to make sure all customers had a great experience. Colin and Gary employed their first engineer in the first few months of starting the business who still works for Metro Rod today.

After 2 years Colin and Gary had employed 3 engineers before renting out a council building to store their work van.

Our current managing director and Colin’s son, Ben, joined the team in 2007 part-time. After 2 years Ben became a full-time member of the team and a fully qualified drainage engineer.

In 2011, Gary left the business to open our sister franchise, Metro Rod Swansea. Colin continued to grow Metro Rod Newport & Hereford and Ben soon joined as a Director.

On the 10th anniversary of being in business, Metro Rod Newport and Hereford were awarded Franchise Winners of the Year. Since then, both our staff and fleet numbers have grown due to increased demand from customers. We now have 5 tankers, 21 engineers, and 14 vans on the road which means we are able to cover a wider area including Gloucester and Cardiff.

We are currently based in the Crown Business Park, Tredegar, where there is easy access to roads towards Maston, Newent, and Abbeydale. We like to get involved as much as possible in charity work, but until recently have worked with charities in the Newport area. However, as we grow we would like our reach for volunteer work. Therefore, if you know a charity project that we could get involved in your area contact us.

"We had an issue with a set of toilets that had been blocked for about 5 weeks, each time we cleared the problem it would block again. We called Metro Rod out to hopefully fix the problem permanently. Daniel from the office was very polite and helpful and informed me that someone would be out the next day. Your engineer arrived with his magical wand and fixed the problem. He did a thorough investigation and was professional throughout. Thank you for your service. Our Customers will be happy."

Legends of the drainage industry

Our engineers attended a property in Crickhowell to deal with a blocked drain - as with many customers we encounter, they had already utilised the services of another drainage provider who had failed to rectify their problem completely.

Our investigate skills paid off - we found a damaged section of pipework that had been the cause of the customers repeated blockages. We quoted to fix the problem and returned to the property the following week to carry out the repair - leaving the customer safe in the knowledge that her drainage problems had come to an end.

"Your engineers came out to my property and did an amazing job sorting out the blocked drain in my garden. Then went above and beyond what other companies had done previously - and after a lot of drama and problems they found and solved the problem once and for all. They are legends! Thank you once again."
