Blocked Drains: Movie Edition with Metro Rod West Yorkshire

Blocked drains are a common problem faced by many business and homeowners. It can become expensive and time-consuming to fix if the blocked drains are not addressed correctly.

Metro Rod West Yorkshire is experts when it comes to unblocking drains as well as toilet unblocking, gutter cleaning, drain repair and much more.

We have found many strange things causing blocked drains in the past. Today, we're going to look at what we found down the drains in the movies (not causing blocked drains, however, in the real world they would be!)

TMNT (1990-2017)

Now, this film series takes you back to your childhood! ‘Who lives in the sewers?’ Everyone knows it’s the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles! Leonardo, Donatello, Raphael and Michelangelo of course. An absolute classic making the sewers seem like the best place to be, lounging around eating pizza down the drains. Martial arts, classic chase scenes and more – who wouldn’t want to be a part of that?! Could you imagine if one of Metro Rod West Yorkshire's engineers found their secret lair?!

The Italian Job (1969)

Metro Rod Leeds, Wakefield, Bradford and Huddersfield remember when Michael Caine starred in the original film featuring the iconic chase scene of minis driven through sewers. Did you know the sewer scene was actually filmed in Stoke Aldermoor, Coventry.

Terminator 2: Judgement Day (1991)

Riding a stolen Harley Davidson motorcycle, Arnold Schwarzenegger and John Connor get chased through the Los Angeles stormwater management system, big enough to take a pursuing truck. Metro Rod West Yorkshire would love to see that in action here.

Flushed Away (2006)

This animated film takes place in the London sewers after high maintenance, “upper class” pet rat (Roddy) falls down the toilet bowl! The plot includes evil toads, friendly rats and a plan to great sewage flood! The sewer shows an underworld of rats living in the sewers as if it was a miniature London below ground. Glad it wasn't going to flood Leeds, Wakefield, Bradford or Huddersfield!

Shawshank Redemption (1994)

That final hit with the rock, causing the prison sewage pipe to burst, still makes us here at Metro Rod West Yorkshire feel sick. Can you imagine climbing through the entire pipe! An iconic escape featuring a good old sewage pipe.

IT (1990; 2017)

Stephen King’s bestseller! These sewers are somewhere we wouldn’t want to live in. The movie created an iconic scene in which a young child loses their paper boat in the drain, then meeting Pennywise at the entrance to the drain. Everyone remembers this scene, and some have never gone near a drain ever since but not Metro Rod West Yorkshire.

Here at Metro Rod West Yorkshire, we wish we had Superhero Ninja Turtles and we’re glad we’ve never met Pennywise! We know what is causing blocked drains and it’s not any of the above.

We’re sure there’s many more – contact us through social media and let us know what films you know related to drains and sewers. Use #metrorodwy.

The top 5 things that are most likely causing your blocked drains are grease, oils and fats, hair, tree roots and leaves, and non-biodegradable objects such as wipes, sanitary items and earbuds etc.

Research by WRC has shown that over 75% of all blocked drains is made up of wet wipes. BBC investigated last year and found that there were no wet wipes that were sold as flushable in the UK that had yet managed to pass the water industry’s disintegration tests, the 'Fine to Flush' standard has come to light.

Not sure if you have blocked drains? Signs such as unpleasant smells, strange sounds, raised water levels or slow drainage suggests you have blocked drains.

If you are experiencing reoccurring blocked drains, whether its an inside or outside drain,  Metro Rod West Yorkshire could be the answer to your problem.

Frequent drain cleaning can help avoid blocked drains. By drain cleaning, you will have your sinks, baths and toilets running smoothly with no standing water or slowly draining drains. Drain cleaning will help avoid the build-up of fatbergs caused by the build-up of grease, oils and fats, hair, tree roots and leaves, and non-biodegradable objects.
