Here comes Santa Claus, Here comes Santa Claus, Right down Santa Claus Lane… And he brought 1500 friends!
Sunday 2nd December was a sight to behold in the roman city of Chester, when it saw 1500 people don their best Santa hats and run 3.3km in aid of Charity! 10am saw the sirens sound for start of the race, a sea of red jackets and white beards. Perfect weather (some sunshine but cool temperatures) and a jolly good laugh was had by all, making the 8th Chester Santa Dash a huge success!
The Chester Santa Dash takes place every December in aid of Countess of Chester Hospital Fundraising and Hospice of the Good Shepherd. Both local charities that are close to many local peoples hearts. The Countess Charity does work to raise funds for the Hospital for much needed resources which unfortunately aren’t funded by the NHS. Their most successful appeal to date was The Babygrow Appeal. They successfully raised £2.4 million to create a new neonatal unit that will provide a modern and spacious environment for the babies, their parents and their families to receive excellent care.
Also benefiting from the charitable donations are Hospice of the Good Shepherd. The Hospice of the Good Shepherd is a respected provider of palliative care for residents of Cheshire West and Chester and Deeside. They provide services free of charge to patients and families facing life limiting illnesses. Which is why donations to the Hospice are so important.
Metro Rod were there too!
Sunday saw our Marketing Manager, Eleri, donning her own Santa hat and taking part in the annual Santa Dash! She has this to say;
“The sheer amount of people was just astonishing. Mums and Dads, Children, Grandparents, even family dogs all running the distance. It was great to see so many people in the city all come together for these great causes. It was very emotional, these charities do so much for the people who need hospital care in our area and to see so many people here today was a testament to show that we can all work together for causes such as The Countess Charity and The Hospice.”
So how was the run?
“It was challenging! Lots of uphill sections,which I’m not used to when running, and it was a bit warm in a Santa suit with a hat and beard! I would 100% do it all over again though!”
Sounds like Eleri enjoyed herself!
