Preparing for the cold weather:
- Stock up with basics for the next couple of days but try not to stock pile too much food.
- Check your heating is working effectively and efficiently. It may be wise to leave your heating on a lower setting but all the time.

- Draught proof your home.
- Get your boiler serviced.
- Bleed the radiators.
- Take care of your pipes, cover your stop tap with a insulating jacket if possible. Apply lagging to pipes and water tanks for example.

During the cold weather, remember these tips to stay warm:
- Cover up with plenty of layers.
- Close the curtains, and if you are in the market for new ones, check out ‘thermal curtains’ for better heat efficiency.
- Once you have finished using the oven to cook, leave the over door open for a while (if it is safe to do so), this way the heat from the oven will add to heating your house.
- Pop an extra layer down underfoot, roll out another rug to provide another layer of insulation.
- Check on your elderly or vulnerable neighbours.
- Keep the radio on for updates such as travel updates which may affect your commute.
- Keep mobile phones fully charged.
