We are fully committed to servicing all customers in the current circumstances. Our engineers are working hard 24/7 to support all domestic and commercial customers.

Here at Metro Rod Bedford we keep on hearing rumours that there could be snow on the way and that towards the end of the month we can expect to see up to 4cm fall in one day!

Most of you will shiver when you remember last years ‘Beast From The East‘ and the disruption that it caused.  The farmers around here became our heros keeping roads passable for those who absolutely had to travel. Last weekend, one of our Metro Rod Bedford engineers was out in Tring and his van registered a temperature of -0.6c.  So with ice, snow and freezing fog all potentially just around the corner, here is our ‘snow survival hints and tips guide’ for Beds, Bucks and Herts.

Preparing for the cold weather:

  • Stock up with basics for the next couple of days but try not to stock pile too much food.
  • Check your heating is working effectively and efficiently. It may be wise to leave your heating on a lower setting but all the time.
  • Check your pipework for leaks, Metro Rod Bedford can assist if something isn’t quite right. https://www.metrorod.co.uk/services/drain-repair/
  • How’s the water pressure in your house? A water pressure test can help determine and locate a leak.
  • Check your washers, we can help if you have a dripping, leaky tap or a tap that isn’t working at all. https://www.metrorod.co.uk/services/metro-plumb/
  • Heat your home not your walls – either invest in radiator reflective panels  or find out about wrapping tin foil around cardboard to reflect the heat back into the room – click on this link for further details. http://www.energysavingtrust.org.uk/home-insulation/insulating-tanks-pipes-and-radiators
  • Draught proof your home.
  • Get your boiler serviced.
  • Bleed the radiators.
  • Take care of your pipes, cover your stop tap with a insulating jacket if possible. Apply lagging to pipes and water tanks for example.
  • Clear gutters and ensure that water can drain freely away. https://www.metrorod.co.uk/services/gutter-cleaning/

During the cold weather, remember these tips to stay warm:

  • Cover up with plenty of layers.
  • Close the curtains, and if you are in the market for new ones, check out ‘thermal curtains’ for better heat efficiency.
  • Once you have finished using the oven to cook, leave the over door open for a while (if it is safe to do so), this way the heat from the oven will add to heating your house.
  • Pop an extra layer down underfoot, roll out another rug to provide another layer of insulation.
  • Check on your elderly or vulnerable neighbours.
  • Keep the radio on for updates such as travel updates which may affect your commute.
  • Keep mobile phones fully charged.
  • Call Metro Rod Bedford on 0800 66 88 00 (open 24 hours a day) should you have a drainage or plumbing emergency.

Did you know…?

Along with emergency plumbing and drainage, we can also help with other aspects of your drainage needs.

Metro Rod Bedford and Watford can carry out a free of charge site assessment for all your business premises.  If you need a hand at your place of work we can pop along and visually inspect all aspects of drainage, from drains to toiletsgutters to gullies and fat and grease management systems for kitchens and canteens. We can also quote on regular scheduled maintenance (PPM) to keep your facilities in the best condition.

Metro Rod Bedford and Watford can also help with construction projects, we can map drains if you aren’t sure of the location before you decide to extend and we can survey the drainage pipe lines after works are complete prior to handover from your contractor. Having a CCTV drainage survey will ascertain the condition of the drains and highlight any recommendations and remedial works to be completed. We can also carry out CCTV surveys on properties where the condition of the drains is unknown, such as a home buyers drain survey for added peace of mind during the property purchasing process, we are recommended by, and work with many Estate Agents in our area.

Just give us a call to see how we can help you. 0800 66 88 00
