Drains are constantly relied on in any property, and the regular use will put them under stress which can result in faults. The damaged caused by natural wear and tear can start to show up in your home indicating that there is a problem in your drainage system. It’s important that you are able to recognise the signs that you have damaged drains so that the problems do not get worse. As most of the drainage system is hidden from sight it may not always be obvious when there are issues Metro Rod want to point out some common signs of damage.

Poor/Slow Drainage

A very common sign that there is something wrong within your drains is when they start draining considerably slower and you may even notice sewage backing up. This can be an indicator of a blocked drain which is caused by a number of things, but it may also be a result of a collapsed drain.

Water Pooling

If you find water pooling around your sinks, showers or toilets then this will indicate damage within your drains and pipes that is allowing water to leak.

Unpleasant Odours

Odours coming from your drains may also be a symptom of a pipe that has become damaged. You may be able to locate these smells both indoors and outside the property. If there is a continuing smell, even after the pipes have been cleaned, then it could be indicative of structural damage within the drainage system.

Damp and Mould

When a drain becomes damaged chances are it might start to leak which may lead to damp and mould becoming visible on you walls, floors and ceilings. You’ll want this to be looked at as soon as possible so that the damage to your home or business doesn’t worsen and threaten the structure of your property.
