Here at Metro Rod (North East) we are extremely proud to have sponsored the North East Disability Sports Awards for the third year in a row.
The annual awards recognise and celebrate the accomplishments of the participants, their coaches and clubs. There were over 80 nominations for this year’s events highlighting the amount of sporting heroes we have in our region.
We sponsored the Coach Award and the winner was Lee Fawcett, Head Coach of the Tees Valley Titans Wheelchair Sports Club. Lee is a former Paralympian and member of the GB team. Since retiring from international competition he has redirected his passion and energies into developing a successful club. He is the ‘driving force’ within his club, and also visits many schools, colleges and groups in the area coaching young people and inspiring others to achieve through his motivational speeches and coaching sessions. His nominator described him as having “been instrumental in securing funding to purchase equipment and increase the number of qualified coaches at the club”.
Within his local area Lee has transformed the playing and competition opportunities available within his sport creating an inclusive environment within school and community sport. His commitment has resulted in his sport being played in curriculum time in weekly club sessions and thriving holiday camps leading to a successful community club.
Massive congratulations to Lee and all of the other winners and nominees of the night. We are already looking forward to next year.
