CCTV Drain Survey and Drain Camera Services at Scientific Research Facility
Serving as a leading scientific research centre, the facility includes multiple laboratories, offices, and mechanical plant areas. Maintaining its complex drainage network is critical for operational safety, environmental compliance, and ISO 14001 certification. Metro Rod has been supporting the site on a recurring basis, providing expert drain camera inspections, CCTV drain survey, and asset mapping services to keep the infrastructure fully operational and compliant.
The Challenge: Complex Drainage Surveying Requirements
The client required a comprehensive CCTV drain survey and asset mapping across three key areas, alongside installation and repair works for multiple LSRs (Localised Structural Repair) to target and seal specific sections of drains without full replacement. The drainage system presented multiple challenges: complex layouts across labs, workshops, plant rooms, and communal areas; unknown pipe conditions with potential blockages; and surcharged or damaged drains that could pose environmental risks and operational disruption.
Previous surveys had identified areas requiring repeated monitoring, and some drains needed urgent clearance or repair. Confined space work and high-pressure water jetting (HPWJ) were necessary in certain sections, making the project technically demanding and time-sensitive.
The Solution: Expert Drain Camera Inspections and Asset Mapping
Metro Rod delivered a structured, multi-stage approach, leveraging years of experience with the site. Lead engineers carried out drainage surveying using push rods for smaller drains and crawler units for larger 600mm surface water lines, complemented by GPS mapping of all assets. Drain camera inspections captured real-time data and photographs via the iTouch system.
Obstructions such as bricks or broken pipes were cleared through confined space entry, allowing surveys to continue. Multiple LSR installations were completed, with CCTV drain surveys verifying the success of each repair. Dye testing and flow verification ensured proper connections of gullies and outfalls. The recurring familiarity of Metro Rod’s engineers with the site allowed them to anticipate problem areas, work efficiently, and minimise operational disruption.
The Outcome: Reliable Drainage Systems and Regulatory Compliance
The project provided the client with a full, accurate record of the drainage network, including CCTV drain survey footage, asset mapping reports, manhole and gully cards, and detailed iTouch reports. Blockages were cleared, surcharged drains addressed, and multiple LSRs installed successfully, preventing operational downtime and environmental hazards.
The facility benefited from continuity of service and long-term expertise, enhancing regulatory compliance and ISO 14001 objectives.
Through recurring support, Metro Rod has ensured the facility’s drainage systems remain fully operational, safe, and compliant, combining technical expertise, specialist equipment, and deep knowledge of the site.
