Blocked Drain on the Isle of Wight? Here’s What to Do

3rd July 2025

Dealing with a blocked drain,or more than one, can be confusing. Is it your responsibility? The council’s? Southern Water’s? Here’s a quick breakdown for the Isle of Wight.

Whose Drain Is It?

  • Inside your property boundary (e.g. kitchen sink, toilet, gully): Your responsibility
  • Shared pipes or beyond your boundary (e.g. shared lines or neighbour’s drains): Southern Water
  • Road or pavement drains: Island Roads

Still not sure? We can help you figure it out.

What to Do First

If just one fixture is slow, try a DIY method like:

  • Boiling water
  • Baking soda + vinegar

But if you notice:

  • Multiple blocked drains
  • Pooling water outside
  • A strong or unpleasant smell

…then it’s time to call in a professional.

Can You Fix It Today?

Yes, very often! We offer 24/7 emergency call-outs across the Isle of Wight and can usually be with you within a few hours, depending on demand.

What Will It Cost?

If it’s your responsibility, we’ll give you a clear, fair quote—with no hidden fees.

If it turns out to be Southern Water’s or Island Roads’ responsibility, we’ll:

  • Help you identify the right authority
  • Guide you through the reporting process
  • Even help report it for you, if needed
