We are fully committed to servicing all customers in the current circumstances. Our engineers are working hard 24/7 to support all domestic and commercial customers.
So, what goes into making a day’s work of a Metro Rod Engineer? Well, you’re about to find out!
All our engineers have their specialist areas. So depending on their skill-set, will largely depend on how their day pans out.
We’ll be focusing on an individual engineer on one of our next articles, once we can pick a victim, sorry engineer, to follow for the day!
So, for now, here’s an overview of what a typical day might look like for different engineers;
These engineers are largely our busiest ones! They handle the day to day emergency call outs which come in to the depot office. And there’s a lot of them! Reactive engineers will report to the office at 7:30am to receive their first jobs for the day. These may be jobs which have requested a specific date or they may have come into us via email or phone that morning. We are completely flexible for our clients needs so scheduling jobs to suit your own schedule is no problem!
Arriving at the office early is also handy when we carry out weekly vehicle checks of the vans and equipment. This ensures all the vans and the equipment is in top condition and fit for purpose. Engineers check things such as oil levels, tyre pressures, jetting hoses are in good condition, etc.
Once out on the road engineers can be attending anything. From blocked drains, an overflowing toilet or a leaking pipe! So, if you call our depot with issues of a blocked drain, one of our Reactive Engineers is who you’ll be greeting at the door! Travelling throughout North Wales, Wirral and Chester, they could be in Tarporley at 8am and Bangor at lunchtime!
When it comes to repairing drains our team of excavations and lining engineers are there to help! Often jobs like these take longer due to the nature of works so our engineers in this team could be no site for up to days at a time. All dependant on clients needs of course!
You can take a look at how lining works are carried out in our services explained here! Lining and patching are techniques known as LSR’s (localised structural repairs) and allow us to repair pipework without the need to dig and disturb the ground!
Also, Our excavations engineers are often replace entire sections of pipework that just can’t be repaired using a patch. So, in some cases we do need to dig but rest assured, the area will always be left in top condition once our engineers leave site.
Our Tanker engineers are in charge of our largest members of our fleet (if you want to take a look at our whole fleet, take a look here and here!) our Tankers are used for a variety of different works. From emptying septic tanks and pump stations, to jetting larger expanses of blocked drains and larger diameter pipework. In order to drive our Tanker unit a HGV Class 2 licence is required, so only qualified engineers are put on our Tanker for works.
Tanker work normally works on a half day or full day basis. Because the works which the Tanker carries out are of a larger scale, our Tanker could be on a site for multiple days depending on the client’s needs.
So, as you can see, our engineers can have a variety of daily works to attend and carry out. Whether that be visit multiple sites in a day or one site for a full day, our engineers provide top class service no matter the job!
If you want to hear more about a daily life of an engineer take a look at this great article from our colleagues at Metro Rod North East! Emily went out for the day in the van with one of the plumbers!
No matter what your issue we have the engineers with the knowledge and experience to tackle it! From blocked drains, to leaking pipework, to surcharging manholes!
