Metro Rod Celebrates Triple Industry Award Recognition for People, Learning and Safety Excellence
Metro Rod is celebrating a hat-trick of industry award shortlistings, highlighting the company’s commitment to developing its people, embracing innovation and raising standards across the drainage sector.
The business was shortlisted for Best People Development in Facilities Management at the Facilities Management Awards, recognising its employee-led innovation programme that empowers colleagues to drive business transformation, develop new skills and help shape the future of the organisation. The programme focuses on giving employees genuine ownership, encouraging innovation and creating clear pathways for career progression.
Although Metro Rod did not take home the award, reaching the shortlist among some of the UK’s leading facilities management organisations is a significant achievement and a testament to the strength of its people-first culture. The submission showcased how colleagues are encouraged to take initiative, lead change and unlock new opportunities for both themselves and the wider business.
Building on that success, Metro Rod has now been shortlisted in two categories at the prestigious Construction News Workforce Awards 2026:
- Excellence in Learning & Development
- Health & Safety Initiative of the Year
Both nominations recognise Metro Rod’s pioneering AI-powered Toolbox Talks programme, an industry-first initiative that is transforming the way engineers access essential safety and professional development training across the company’s nationwide franchise network.
The innovative approach combines artificial intelligence with expert human oversight to deliver engaging, accessible and consistent training on demand. By replacing traditional classroom-based sessions with digital learning, Metro Rod has significantly reduced training lead times, improved accessibility and enabled engineers to become job-ready more quickly while maintaining the highest standards of compliance and safety.
The initiative has also supported operational efficiency across the network, eliminating the need for extensive travel and making training available in multiple languages to support a diverse workforce. The programme has earned praise from external auditors and contributes to Metro Rod’s record of achieving 100% scores in ISO and Achilles audits over the past seven years.
