Metro Rod Launches Electric Vehicle Salary Sacrifice Scheme

Electric Vehicle Salary Sacrifice Scheme

Metro Rod and Metro Plumb has partnered with Gofor, alongside long-term associates and sponsors CVM, to launch an Electric Vehicle (EV) Salary Sacrifice Scheme, offering Support Centre employees at our HQ in Macclesfield, the opportunity to drive a brand-new or used electric vehicle in a tax-efficient and cost-effective way.

The scheme forms part of Metro Rod’s wider approach to supporting more sustainable ways of working, while also providing a valuable employee benefit with clear financial advantages whilst bolstering staff engagement.

The EV Salary Sacrifice scheme allows participants to make savings on Income Tax and National Insurance, while benefiting from a fully maintained and insured electric vehicle. The package is designed to be straightforward and transparent, with key costs bundled into one monthly deduction.

Each vehicle includes insurance, servicing, maintenance and breakdown cover, removing the uncertainty often associated with vehicle ownership and allowing participants to focus on the benefits of electric driving.

By supporting the transition to electric vehicles, the scheme also helps reduce carbon emissions linked to employees’ daily commutes and travel between our Support Centre, franchise locations and customer sites, supporting both personal and business sustainability goals. Steve Chambers, Managing Director at Metro Rod & Metro Plumb, said:

“The launch of our Electric Vehicle Salary Sacrifice scheme is an important step in supporting both our people and the way we operate as a national business. It provides a practical, cost?effective benefit for employees, while also helping to reduce emissions associated with travel across our network. Partnering with Gofor and CVM allows us to offer a scheme that is simple, flexible and genuinely valuable, supporting more sustainable travel to customers, franchisees and support locations across the UK.”

EV Launch Event at the Support Centre

To support the launch, Gofor and CVM attended the support Centre, hosting an onsite presentation and drop-in session for the Support Centre team. The session provided attendees with the opportunity to learn more about how the scheme works and to ask questions directly.

The presentation and drop?in covered:

  • How salary sacrifice works
  • The potential tax and National Insurance savings
  • What is included within the EV package
  • How to choose and order a vehicle
  • A live Q&A session

In addition, colleagues were given the opportunity to experience electric driving first-hand, with test drives available on site, helping to bring the benefits of EV ownership to life.

Experiencing Electric Driving First-Hand

Alongside the Support Centre session, staff were also invited to attend a Ride and Drive Day with Volvo, allowing participants to get behind the wheel and experience the performance, comfort and ease of electric vehicles. For many, it provided a practical comparison with traditional petrol or diesel vehicles and helped build confidence in making the switch to electric.

CVM and Gofor are delighted to be working with Metro Rod on the roll-out of their new Electric Vehicle Salary Sacrifice Scheme. With great digital tools and a dedicated Metro Rod support team, Gofor looks forward to assisting Metro Rod colleagues make a smooth transition into a new electric vehicle of their choice. Not only is this a great tax efficient benefit for colleagues to access, but it also helps Metro Rod achieve its ambitions to reduce its overall environmental impact by eliminating tailpipe emissions from colleague’s commutes to work. Following the launch event at Metro Rod’s  Support Centre in Macclesfield, Robert Lea, Gofor Sales & Marketing Director said:

“It was great to see the enthusiasm Metro Rod employees had for the launch of this new benefit. There was great engagement from colleagues on the day, with multiple individual driver consultations to explain the personal benefits of the scheme and the potential suitability of individual vehicles. We look forward to continuing these discussions and to begin delivering the new vehicles to employees as their orders are placed.”

Looking Ahead

The launch of the EV Salary Sacrifice scheme represents another step forward in Metro Rod’s approach to sustainability, employee benefits and smarter ways of working. By partnering with GoFor and CVM, the business can offer a flexible, accessible scheme that supports both environmental objectives and day-to-day operational needs. This initiative also marks the beginning of Metro Rod’s wider transition towards a fully electric fleet, with plans to move towards true electric vans in the future. It is the first of many steps on the journey towards a greener, more sustainable Metro Rod.
