Blocked drains, sinks, toilets, showers and baths are our speciality, but for our many customers across Dorset these blockages are a real pain causing disruption to homes and business. Being a 24 hour 7 day a week business we are regularly called out in the evenings and weekends to deal with emergencies caused by blocked drains.

We are finding increasing numbers caused by a build up of fat, grease and food scraps which have been washed down the kitchen sink. As fat, oil and grease from the plate is normally liquid, most people do not realise the harm. Once those liquids are in your drains they begin to cool and then congeal and harden, sticking to the inner lining of drain pipes, restricting the wastewater flow and causing the blockages.

These fat blockages can result in sewer flooding, odour problems and the risk of rat infestations, all nasty and all avoidable. There are some really easy was to prevent this.

  1. Do not pour fats, oils, grease from plates or from cooking pans, including your Sunday roast or your morning bacon, down the sink, however small the volume as it all builds up.
  2. Avoid washing any food scraps, however small down the sink, these too will only build up in to a larger mass.
