Matt Howland and Toby Townsley, who previously ran the well-established Absolute Utilities, have taken over the Gloucester territory of national drainage brand Metro Rod. Matt brings over a decade of experience as a Health & Safety professional working closely with the Housing, Civil Engineering and Utility Sector, as well as operational insights from his days supporting small businesses. Toby brings an entrepreneurial spirit from over 10 years in the utilities sector, as well as a commitment to building trusted local partnerships and maintaining the highest standards in every project. Together, they are passionate about not just providing drainage services through their Metro Rod franchise, but also providing the people and businesses of Gloucester with reliable, honest customer service and a focus on doing things properly.
“We’re proud to be investing in Gloucester,” said Matt. “Our goal is to build a team of local engineers who live here, know the area, and want to support local residents and businesses.”
As the business grows, Matt and Toby plan to take on apprentices, giving them hands-on training and coaching alongside experienced engineers. “We want to teach them the Metro Rod way from day one, so they develop good habits and can provide the same high standard of service we do,” said Toby.
The pair also hope to work with local suppliers where possible, helping to keep more of the investment within the Gloucester community while complementing national partnerships.
