Drainage and drain care issues such as blocked drains or blocked toilets are our major interest here at Metro Rod Central London but in the capital city there is always something happening and this week's major news in London this week has been the astonishing "Free Solo" climbing of The Shard by a 19 year old man.
For most people just getting out of bed on a Monday morning might represent sufficient drain on the energy reserves but evidently not for George King who took 45 minutes, about the same short length of time our drainage engineers might expect to take to clear a blocked drain, to ascend the 310 metre tower.
The approach to Health & Safety here is categorically not one which we would share when we are maintaining and repairing London drains...Metro Rod operates safely and in line with fully risk-assessed and approved safe systems of work at all times......but truthfully it is perhaps difficult not to feel some element of excitement when reading about thrill-seeking bravado like this.
The Shard is, of course, just one of many high rise buildings in London and as this article makes clear the number of towers in the capital just keeps on increasing with another 76 due to be completed this year and, astonishingly, over 500 either under construction or in planning at present, most of them in Central London.
Drainage systems in tall multi-storey buildings present different scenarios to "normal" low-level buildings . The focus in the latter will be predominantly on "horizontal" drain runs, whether underground or internal (for example urinal pipework). In a multi-storey building however much drain cleaning and drain unblocking work will focus on vertical soil stacks and waste stacks as illustrated in the "typical" scenario below :
At Metro Rod Central London we work for many of the Facilities Managers, Maintenance Managers and Property Managers responsible for drain care in London's iconic towers. Our drainage engineers are experienced in the cleaning of all forms of London building drainage using specialist electro-mechanical cleaning equipment as well as high-pressure water jetting where, again, we operate specially adapted equipment capable of operating inside, as well as outside, any given building.
Metro Rod drain care encompasses both reactive emergency work and pre-planned maintenance cleans. We will devise a safe and effective schedule of works to clean and maintain any London site drainage system. Indeed many of our pre-planned maintenance cleans are undertaken at night and at weekends to ensure minimum interruption to our customers' business.
We understand the specific requirements which can arise in London's unique environment and aim to provide our customers with a safe, professional and honest drain care service day or night . Contact us today and we will aim to scale the heights of service for you:
