SEPTIC TANK EMPTYING…….

18th June 2019

SEPTIC TANK EMPTYING…….

When Septic Tanks are put in place, they can be ignored until something goes wrong.  Septic tanks have to be emptied and monitored regularly so any problems can be identified and fixed early on. Ignoring your septic tank can lead to deeper rooted problems that are expensive, potentially dangerous and require serious work to fix.

How often should your septic tank be emptied?

This depend on the type and size of tank. For example, if a home has been extended to accommodate more people, but the septic tank has not been updated, it will need to be emptied more frequently.

Your septic tank will not need to be emptied as often if you have a large tank that’s underused. However, septic tank emptying should be performed once a year. Here at Metro Rod Coventry & Leicester we can take the stress from you, and put together a pre-planned maintenance program, this will ensure your tank gets emptied without the stress of having to pick up the phone.

Cleaning the Septic tank:

It is essential to keep your Septic tank in a good working condition. A septic tank requires cleaning every few years. It does not only collect your waste but it separates the waste into three separate layers. The top layer is oils & grease this floats above all the waste. This is called scum. The middle layer is the waste water along with waste particles. The bottom layer consists of heavier particles that are heavier than water and form a layer of sludge. Inside the tank bacteria from the wastewater breaks down the solid waste. These bacteria decompose the solid waste rapidly allowing the liquids to separate and drain away more easily.

Septic tank emptying, which is performed by vacuum pumping, is essential to keep your septic tank in good working condition. A septic tank does not treat the waste that flows into it, it separates the waste out into the three separate layers. The waste water leaves the septic tank and flows out into the soak away drainage field. The other two layers, the ‘scum’ and ‘sludge’, are more solid, they remain in the tank and have to be emptied at regular intervals with a tanker so the septic tank doesn’t overflow.

Where does the Scum & Sludge go?

We will send one of our tanker vehicles to your property, and use vacuum pumping technology to empty all the waste from your tank. We then take it away and dispose of it in a safe, hygienic and environmentally-friendly way.

What happens if you don’t empty your septic tank regularly?

Failing to empty your septic tank when it’s required can lead to a number of different problems:

  • Sewer blockages
  • Gurgling pipes
  • Toilets taking longer to flush
  • Bad smells
  • Waste pooling above the soak away field
